Grade 6 Math

The 6th grade has concluded a long but very important chapter on Whole Numbers and Decimals.

Much of the material will be applied in various contexts throughout the year.

They began with a review and an extension of Place Value of Whole numbers. They expanded the place value chart

as well as Rounding, comparing and estimating.

We continued with a look at mathematic properties (Commutative, Associative, Identity)to help make computation easier.

An important lesson followed on evaluating a problem usiing order of Operations.

The class then moved on to review and expand the same concepts above but with decimals.

The above lessons were used to compute decimal answers using adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.

Students were also shown ways to coompute answers using mental math skills.

A test will connclude the chapter on October 16th.

The 6th grade will then begin a chapter on Analyzing and Graphing Data as awell as apply the concepts from Chapter 1.
