Grade 7 Math

The 7th grade math class has concluded a long but very important chapter on Decimals and Integers.

This chapter will set the framework for much of the math this year.

A review of decimal concepts as well as adding, subtracting, multiplying annd diividing decimals was completed.

An extension of this led to a lesson on the Metric System.  After a discussion of the metrics being used in our daily lives,

students leaned the prefixes and the converted equivalent units of measure which involved multiplying and dividing by powers of 10.

The chapter continued with an extensive unit on Integers.  Students learned the basic concepts of comparing and ordering.  A discussion

led to how negative numbers are used in our daily lives. This led to adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing of integers.  Students must

know the rules for these operations and continuouly review them in order to apply them to future lessons throughout the year.

The chapter continued with integers being applied to Order of Operations and the Distributive Property.

We concluded with a review of Measures of Central Tendencies (mean, median, mode, range and outlier) using decimals,

whole numbers and integers.

A chapter test willl be on October 16th.

The class will then begin a chapter on Exponentts, Factors and Fraction basics.
